Cap 2100 International est un projet mûri par Alain Retiere depuis plus de 20 ans au travers de ses expériences professionnelles et concrétisé en avril 2013.

2002

C’est au sein d’UNOSAT qu’apparaissent les prémices de Cap 2100 International. Ce service spécialisé des Nations Unis produit de l’imagerie satellite pour optimiser les déploiements humanitaires et réduire la vulnérabilité territoriale aux catastrophes naturelles et aux conflits armés.

Quelques années auparavant, le fondateur de Cap 2100 International, Alain Retiere, eut l’occasion de travailler avec des territoires en situation post-conflit, en Amérique Latine (Amérique Centrale, Andine), Afrique (Ouest, Est, Sud), Pays Arabes (Liban, Syrie), Asie centrale (Tajikistan), Asie du sud-est (Cambodge), Balkans (Bosnie, FYROM) et Pacifique (PNG, Fidji, Salomons) et d’apporter ses connaissances techniques pour rendre possible les programmes de réhabilitation et de durabilité sociale post-conflit.

Ce souci de durabilité sociale se retrouve dans tous les projets menés par Alain Retiere au sein des Nations Unis et plus tard au sein de Cap 2100 International.

L’aventure débute en 2008 lors du sommet mondial sur le changement climatique organisé à Saint-Malo par la Région Bretagne et le réseau NRG4SD.

L’ONU décide, à l’issu de ce sommet, d’implanter à Brest son agence de cartographie satellite appliquée au changement climatique : CLIMSAT, dont Alain Retiere est le Président. CLIMSAT a pour mission de visualiser les tendances lourdes du climat sur un plan régional en combinant l’analyse biophysique des territoires et les données climatologiques.

Grâce à CLIMSAT et sa modélisation prospective du climat et de ses conséquences sur l’agriculture, les écosystèmes, les infrastructures et espaces urbains, les territoires peuvent s’adapter aux changements climatiques.

L’ accord entre l’ONU et la région Bretagne prend fin : sans financement, l’aventure CLIMSAT ne peut se poursuivre.

Pour donner une continuité au travail commencé trois ans plus tôt chez CLIMSAT, Alain Retiere fonde Cap 2100 consulting. C’est dans ce contexte qu’il rencontre des scientifiques réunis autour d’un GIS ( Groupe d’Intérêt Scientifique ) Climat Environnement Société.

De cette rencontre naît l’initiative TASK ( Territorial Approach & Sustainable Knowledge ), une plateforme internationale de services scientifiques et de partage des connaissances sur l’approche territoriale du changement global (Consortium IRD, CNRS, UNIGE, UQAR, PNUE).

TASK organise l’implication des chercheurs sur le terrain, ce qui permet de mieux traiter les questions socio-écologiques et énergétiques à l’échelle des territoires.

Un portefeuille de projets ciblant 12 pays est construit ( Nicaragua, Inde, Colombie, Brésil, Maroc, Laos, Uruguay, Sénégal, Mauritanie, Tchad, Guinée et Vietnam ).

Cependant, l’IRD, qui assure le leadership du projet TASK, souhaite s’associer à une entreprise privée pour plus de souplesse. Cette association signe la naissance en avril 2013 de Cap 2100 International.
